The Dippy Chicks

The Big News this morning is that the Dixie Chicks won 5 Grammy Awards last night. But is this really Big News? Is anyone really surprised by this? Did anyone really believe that the leftist music industry would not reward the Chicks for opposing and criticizing President Bush?

Most of the people in the audience who gave them a standing ovation last night would not be able to listen to the Chicks music for more than 2 minutes. But they could listen to their political views for hours. And that's the main reason they won last night.

Barack Hussein Obama is in

Osama Obama (as Ted Kennedy is fond of calling him) will be running for President in 2008. He made the announcement on his web site today. His announcement was full of cliches, but not much substance. Nevertheless, the media (and many bloggers) are having multiple Obamagasms.

I don't understand the appeal of this guy. He has done very little politically. He has only been a U.S. senator for a few years, and he got there by defeating Alan Keyes (not too impressive). He is from a red state and he is one of the most liberal senators in D.C.

I could be wrong, but I believe the demeecrats need to put someone like Bill Clinton (i.e. a liberal in moderate clothing from a southern state) if they want to win the White House. I think The Breck Girl has a better chance than Osama Obama.

But I may be underestimating him. From the picture above, it is obvious that he knows the song "Where is Thumbkin". He may have learned it from The Breck Girl. It seems The Breck Girl also knows the second verse ("Where is Pointer").

John Kerry once again revealed how he really feels about the men and women who serve in the U.S. Military. He has previously referred to them as rapists, murderers and terrorists. Now, in a speech to students at Pasadena City College, he questions their intelligence.

Here's the quote: "You know education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. And if you don't, you get stuck in Iraq..."

A Democratic congressman told ABC News, "I guess Kerry wasn't content blowing 2004, now he wants to blow 2006, too."

Let's hope the Demeecrats nominate Kerry again in 2008!

A Wise Judge

With all the crazy decisions that judges are handing down these days, it is refreshing to hear about one who is using a bit of common sense.

Citing national security, U.S. District Judge Matthew F. Kennelly threw out a lawsuit aimed at blocking AT&T from giving telephone records to the government for use in the war on terror.

Here's part of his ruling:

"The court is persuaded that requiring AT&T to confirm or deny whether it has disclosed large quantities of telephone records to the federal government could give adversaries of this country valuable insight into the government's intelligence activities."

It is always refreshing to hear about the ACLU taking it on the chin. Let's hope for many more decisions like this.

I agree with the editors of the National Review -- The White house should revoke the New York Times' White House press credentials because of the Times' bad habit of revealing secret National Security programs. And they should search out and prosecute the disgruntled leftists in the government who seek to undermine the President and the war on terror by leaking this secret information.

This is from the article:

"New York Times executive editor Bill Keller concluded that “the administration’s extraordinary access to this vast repository of international financial data, however carefully targeted use of it may be, is a matter of public interest.”

It is a matter of interest mainly to al Qaeda. The terrorists will now adapt. They will find new ways of transferring funds, and precious lines of intelligence will be lost. Murderers will get the resources they need to carry out their grisly business. As for the real public interest, it lies primarily in safety — and what the Times has ensured is that the public today is less safe."

I like what White House Press Secretary Tony Snow said about it:

"The NEW YORK TIMES and other news organizations ought to think long and hard about whether a public's right to know in some cases might override somebody's right to live."

We should be thankful that the folks currently running the New York Times were not in charge during World War II. They probably would have revealed exactly when and how our troops were going to hit the beaches on D-Day. And then defended their actions by saying, "The public has a right to know!"

Al Gore Steps In It (again)

It seems that, according to true experts, Al Gore's new movie "An Inconvenient Truth" is nothing of the sort. Yes, it may be inconvenient for alarmist tree-huggers, but it is not the truth.

This is from a column by Tom Harris:

"Scientists have an independent obligation to respect and present the truth as they see it," Al Gore sensibly asserts in his film "An Inconvenient Truth", showing at Cumberland 4 Cinemas in Toronto since Jun 2. With that outlook in mind, what do world climate experts actually think about the science of his movie?

Professor Bob Carter of the Marine Geophysical Laboratory at James Cook University, in Australia gives what, for many Canadians, is a surprising assessment: "Gore's circumstantial arguments are so weak that they are pathetic. It is simply incredible that they, and his film, are commanding public attention."

But surely Carter is merely part of what most people regard as a tiny cadre of "climate change skeptics" who disagree with the "vast majority of scientists" Gore cites?

No; Carter is one of hundreds of highly qualified non-governmental, non-industry, non-lobby group climate experts who contest the hypothesis that human emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) are causing significant global climate change. "Climate experts" is the operative term here. Why? Because what Gore's "majority of scientists" think is immaterial when only a very small fraction of them actually work in the climate field."

Country Music fans "Not Ready To Make Nice"

The Dixie Chicks are learning that speech sometimes has consequences. The primary audience for their music has not forgotten that they criticized our President while on foreign soil during wartime. Of course, the Chicks themselves made sure that no one forgot by writing an angry song ("Not Ready To Make Nice") about the incident and making it the first single on their new CD.

The country radio stations are giving them very little airplay and the songs from their new CD are not doing well on the Billboard charts. I'm all for freedom of speech, and I believe that the right of the Dixie Chicks to say what they want should be protected.

But they need to realize that speech sometimes has consequences. And they shouldn't whine when they begin to experience those consequences.

I like their music, but I just can't bring myself to listen anymore. I appreciate what Larry The Cable Guy said -- "I like the Dixie Chicks' music. But that little fat one needs to shut-up."

I really like what Ann Coulter has to say about how the Democrats are whining and wringing their hands over gas prices. I especially liked this quote:

Greeting, fellow Americans. I have some serious news for you about the war against the terrorists, the war we are fighting to protect our liberties and our Constitution against Islamic totalitarianism. We're losing, big time. I don't mean we're losing in Iraq, where our brave men and women are fighting well in difficult conditions and with the home grown doubters at their heels. Nor in Afghanistan, where our men and women in uniform are also fighting brilliantly.

No, we are losing our freedom here at home, and in a particularly nasty way. It has to do with those cartoons mocking Mohammed that were published in a Danish publication and have excited riots and burnings across the Moslem world and fear and terror in Europe.

The problem here is that some students at the University of Illinois' student newspaper thought -- with some reason -- that the cartoons are newsworthy. They published six of them along with a written statement of why the cartoons were offensive. A few Moslem students complained, which surely is their right. The university officials stepped in and the student editors were essentially fired. Yes, because a student publication might cause offense. Imagine that.

That's on top of the fact that despite these cartoons being huge news, not one major paper has reprinted them. Not the fearless Washington Post, not the thorough Wall Street Journal, not any major newspaper of record that I know of. Nor have any of the major networks shown them, as far as I know.

So here's where we are: we have a first amendment guaranteeing freedom of speech and separation of church and state. That means so-called artists can make art of a crucifix soaking in urine and of holy Christian images made of animal dung and no one can stop them. That means bookstores of brick and on-line can sell Mein Kampf and the vilest writings of Hitler's lackeys. These horrible excrescences are protected and the media screams bloody murder if anyone tries to protect the sacred in Christianity and Judaism from the most putrid attacks.

But the media censors itself about the cartoons mocking the prophet of a religion many of whose adherents want to destroy our country and our way of life. We will fight to the death to protect the artists who create Piss Christ, but we'll also fight to the death to protect the feelings of the people who hate us and kill our children. We have surrendered our free expression to people who are at war with us. They kill us in the name of a religion and we bow and scrape to that religion while letting people dump on Christianity and Judaism.

There's a word for this, beyond the words Stockholm Syndrome and the words Political Correctness. The word is cowardice. Or maybe an even shorter word: defeat. Wake up, America. This is serious.

DoubleTalk on abortion

Jack Carter, son of former president Jimmah Carter, is running for the Senate. In making his announcement, he had this to say about abortion:

"I'm pro-choice as far as a woman choosing, but I'm against abortion."

Interesting. That sounds a lot like those in the mid-1800's who said, "I'm pro-choice as far as slave owners releasing their slaves. But I'm against slavery."

Expect to hear a lot more of that doubletalk from democrats in the upcoming elections.

Racism at the Winter Olympics!

During a monologue on his HBO show (why does this man still have a TV show?), he complained that the lack of blacks makes the Winter Games look like a GOP convention. Why a "GOP convention"? A better illustration would be the last Clinton administration.

Can you imagine the outcry if Rush Limbaugh or Ann Coulter complained about the lack of whites in the NBA? Or if Sean Hannity pointed out how whites were under-represented in the Rap music industry?

But Bryant GumBall makes an idiotic statement, and it is ignored by the mainstream media.

I suppose I should not be so hard on GumBall. He IS on the same network as Bill Maher.

Democrats and Funerals

First it was the Paul Wellstone memorial in Minnesota. Then it was the Rosa Parks funeral in Detroit. And today it was the Coretta Scott King funeral in Atlanta. What is it about democrats turning funerals into angry and sometimes hateful political rallies?

Today, instead of celebrating the life of Mrs. King -- as President Clinton and several others did -- the "reverend" Joseph Lowery and Jimmy Carter decided to use the occasion to take shots at President Bush. What amazes me is that these two men claim to be followers of Jesus. I've lost any respect I ever had for Jimmy Carter.

That's not to say that it is somehow "unChristian" to criticize a president. Certainly it is not. But there is a time and a place for that. The funeral of a good woman is neither the time nor the place.

Of course the "spectators" at the funeral loved the political rhetoric by the angry democrats. President Bush was courageous to step into that den of vipers.

Makin' Money

The three of you who read this blog may have noticed that I now have ads in the right hand column. I've heard some bloggers refer to this practice as "Selling out." But you won't hear that from me.

I call it "Making Money." Or to be more precise, "Making money so that I can purchase a home theater sound system for my basement rec room (also known as The Man Cave)."

I made almost $1 my first day. Yep, at this rate I should have that home theater sound system by the year 2010!

Carter Steps in it (again)

I have to agree with one pundit who said that Jimmy Carter is a worse ex-president than he was president (and he was a BAD president). Since US law keeps us from giving support to terrorists, and thus keeps us from sending aid to Hamas, Carter suggests we engage in money laundering. Here's what he said:

“If there are prohibitions — like, for instance, in the United States, against giving any money to a government that is controlled by Hamas — then the United States could channel the same amount of money to the Palestinian people through the United Nations, through the refugee fund, through UNICEF, things of that kind…

“[T]he people of Palestine — who already suffer … under Israeli occupation — will not suffer because they are deprived of a right to pay their school teachers, policemen, welfare workers, health workers and provide food for people.”

As Fishkite said, "According to Carter, this militant Islamic group has a right to pay its welfare bureaucrats with money taken from your paycheck."

Sigh. Go away, Jimmy.

Joel Stein (who wrote the column asserting that he doesn't support our troops) and those who admire him, would probably love the banner shown in the picture above.

I like what Ed Morrissey had to say about it:

"I will remind Stein and the Left that these men and women elect, as free citizens, to join the armed services of their own free will to protect all of us, regardless of partisan standing or philosophical bent. They follow the orders of their duly elected Commander-in-Chief, as authorized by Congress and organized by the officers commissioned under the Constitution. If one has a problem with the direction given to these men and women, take it up at the ballot box. We have an open and free society that allows for the peaceful transfer of power over the military by popular vote. If you find that your viewpoint does not get shared by a voting majority, don't blame the soldier for the lack of appeal that your partisans had in the election.

Supporting the troops really just means that you appreciate that they stand ready to carry out the policies of the United States in defense of our freedom and liberty, as expressed in the policies of our elected government. That has no bearing on any particular mission or enterprise, but instead comes from the sacrifice offered by our fellow citizens in uniform to give their lives so that we may remain free -- free to select our own leaders, free to write blogs, free to disagree with each other ... and in Stein's case, free to make an ass of himself by writing one of the most ill-conceived pieces of tripe published in a major media outlet."

A Free Pass?

You may not have heard about the recent comments by Ray Nagin, Mayor of New Orleans. He said that hurricanes Katrina and Rita were a sign that God is mad at America. He also promised that New Orleans would be a "chocolate" city again. Read all about it Here.

You may not have heard about it because it wasn't widely reported. Why does Ray Nagin get a free pass when he says something stupid (and borderline racist), but Pat Robertson is lambasted when he does the same thing? Can you imagine what would happen if there was a terrible tragedy in Salt Lake City and during rebuilding the mayor happened to say, "This will once again be a vanilla city"???

I wonder if Kendall-Ball and Dr. Elrod will have anything to say about it?

Letterman's Meltdown

David Letterman used to be funny. I watched his show almost every night when I was in college, and it was always hilarious. But that has all changed in recent years. Oh, he still has his moments, but what George Bailey once said about Mr. Potter can now be said about David Letterman -- he is a "warped, frustrated old man."

Laura Ingraham has this to say about it:

"CBS's Late Show host David Letterman is supposed to be funny. He makes more than $20 million a year because he is funny. His Top Ten List is a brand unto itself. He was endearing when he did bits like his old Stupid Pet Tricks. I laughed when he ribbed Oprah and Uma.

But on Tuesday night's show, he acquitted himself as just another unhinged member of the liberal entertainment mafia when he interviewed Fox New Channel's Bill O'Reilly.

Even before O'Reilly walked on stage, Letterman acted like a spoiled brat when he used a pencil to stir O'Reilly's mug of water. (So the audience and Letterman were snickering as O'Reilly was oblivious when he went to drink.)

The most revealing exchange occurred toward the end of the segment.

Letterman: I'm not smart enough to debate you point to point on this, but I have the feeling, I have the feeling about 60 percent of what you say is crap. [audience laughter] But I don't know that for a fact.
O'Reilly: Listen, I respect your opinion. You should respect mine.
Letterman: Yeah, but I think there's something, this fair and balanced [Fox branding]. I'm not sure that it's--I don't think that you represent an objective viewpoint.
O'Reilly: Well, you're going to have to give me an example if you're going to make those claims.
Letterman: Well I don't watch your show so that would be impossible.
O'Reilly: Then why would you come to that conclusion if you don't watch the program?
Letterman: Because of things that I've read, things that I know.

Novel concept for a comedian/talk show host: invite a guest on your show, then insult him based on second-hand accounts of his work.

O'Reilly: You weren't aware of the big giant controversy over Christmas?
Letterman: Well, I ignore stuff like that, it doesn't really affect me. I go ahead and do what I wanna do. Let it go. It will take care of itself.

I'll bet Letterman liked all those stories about President Bush living in a bubble, detached from the real world. But what about the blue-state-mentality bubble that Letterman lives in?

Other Letterman knee-slappers:

On Cindy Sheehan: "I am very concerned about people like yourself who don't have nothing (sic) but endless sympathy for people like Cindy Sheehan. Have you lost family members in armed conflict? [O'Reilly answers no.] Then you can hardly speak for her."

On the war in Iraq: "Why the hell are we there to begin with?"

Letterman deserves credit for having traveled both to Iraq and Afghanistan to entertain the troops. But does he stop to wonder how his pro-Sheehan, anti-Bush lines would go over there?

When Al Gore or Howard Dean or Al Franken sit down with Dave it's light and funny and cozy and friendly. With O'Reilly, Letterman was dismissive, condescending, and just plain nasty. He was more Carville than Carson. Actually, even James Carville is funnier than Dave these days. And nicer, too.

Why does this matter? Be cause for better or worse, many younger Americans get the bulk of their cultural and even political news from hosts like Letterman and Comedy Central's Jon Stewart, who want us to believe that their humor is non-partisan. After all, they are quick to point out, let's not forget all the Monica jokes they told when Bill Clinton was president.

But Letterman's sit-down with O'Reilly, much like Stewart's petulant attack against Tucker Carlson on CNN (calling Carlson a male-private part), was notable for what it revealed. Underneath it all, Letterman is just another liberal frustrated at the very existence of guys like O'Reilly, and of men like President Bush. You look at his facial expressions when he's talking to O'Reilly and hear his tone and you know he's thinking -- how can Americans be so ignorant? How could they elect the buffoon in the White House and how could they watch this buffoon sitting across from me?

It is painfully obvious that many of the entertainment giants are making the same mistake the "mainstream" media giants made decades ago when they began staking out biased and "edgy" political positions that offended and alienated millions of potential viewers. Eventually, this drove people to seek out alternative media outlets -- such as the Fox News Channel. If the Letterman and his ilk don't drop the persistent disdain for red state America, we can expect to see the same thing happen to their industry.

Then we'll see who has the last laugh."

It turns out that John Murtha was just having a temper tantrum when he made his comments on the war in Iraq (it's the third item in the article).

I guess it was his way of holding his breath until someone paid attention to him. Unfortunately, the mainstream media does not realize that the best way to deal with a child having a temper tantrum is to ignore him.

Well, this article says otherwise. And this is just one of many examples that could be cited.

Senator John Kerry would like you to believe that he supports our men and women in the military. But his words betray him. Yesterday on "Face the Nation" he basically called our troops in Iraq 'terrorists' when he said:

"There is no reason that young American soldiers need to be going into the homes of Iraqis in the dead of night, terrorizing kids and children."

I bet this really helped troop morale!

Let us all give thanks that this anti-American, anti-military, hippie, war protester was not elected president.

He's very fond of saying that God is not a Republican or a Democrat -- but as Fishkite points out, it is clear that Wallis thinks God is a democrat, and that any person who claims to follow God will also be a democrat.

That's precisely what the Democratic Party wants America to do in Iraq. Some say President Bush should not have led us into War in Iraq and Afghanistan.

1- FDR led us into WWII

2- Germany never attacked us. 450,000 lives were lost.

3- Truman led us into the Korean War - North Korea never attacked us. 55,000 lives were lost

4- John Kennedy led us into Vietnam. North Vietnam never attacked us. 58,000 lives were lost

5- Clinton led us into Bosnia. Bosnia never attacked us. He was offered Bin Laden's head three times by the Sudanese. Clinton did nothing.
Osama has attacked us on various occasions.

6- In the years since terrorists attacked us, the USA under President Bush has liberated two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled Al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Libya, Iran, North Korea without firing a shot and captured a terrorist who murdered 300,000 of his own people.

All the Democrats do is complain how long the war is taking.

HOWEVER…

It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Dividian compound

It took less time than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records

It took less time for the 3rd Infantry to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Ted Kennedy to call police after his car sank in Chappaquiddick.

It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count all the votes in Florida.

The biased liberal media and wacko Liberal Democrats hope we are too ignorant to realize the facts.

Grandstanding

How disgusting that politicians decided to use the funeral of a wonderful woman (Rosa Parks) to grandstand and attack President Bush. What should have been a fitting tribute and deserving memorial turned into hours of rehashed rhetoric. How sad.

The funeral for Rosa Parks was held in Detroit (where she lived for many years until her death), and the politicians from John Kerry to Hillary Clinton to Nancy Pelosi (who invited her?) to Bill Clinton were tripping over themselves to be seen and heard. Even disgraced has-been Jesse Jackson was there.

What should have been a true celebration of life was turned into a political free-for-all.

Bill Maher exposed as clueless
